Join us for a cocktail soirée honoring leading women who exemplify the five pillars of Five Star Women of Color. A night of inspiration, recognition, and connection as we honor 5 phenomenal women for their outstanding work and discuss the power of our voices and votes—just in time for the 2024 presidential election.

Enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres, shop with amazing vendors, and dance the night away—all in your cocktail or business chic attire!

Let’s come together, celebrate in style, network, and empower as we recognize the women making a difference in our community.

Honorees are:

  • Dr. Kaye Whitehead is a trailblazing scholar and social justice advocate. As the founding executive director of The Karson Institute for Race, Peace & Social Justice and a professor at Loyola University Maryland, Dr. Kaye’s dedication to closing the social and racial wealth gap for Black people in America is nothing short of inspiring. Her award-winning radio show, today with Dr. Kaye on WEAA 88.9 FM, provides a platform for the critical conversations shaping our world. We are honored to celebrate her outstanding work, including her recent John LaFarge Award and Vernon Jarrett Medal for Journalistic Excellence.

  • Shontel Greene is a remarkable force of determination and resilience. As a Registered Nurse, entrepreneur, and activist, she has built a healthcare empire while being a fierce advocate for the elderly community. Shontel’s company, Nursez R Us, has been ranked number 96 nationally by Black Enterprise Magazine and featured in Forbes. Her success doesn’t stop there—she owns seven homes, including five recovery homes, demonstrating her incredible impact in both healthcare and real estate.

  • Pam Reaves is a shining example of culture, sophistication, and perseverance. As a professional coach and thriving entrepreneur, she became a powerful inspiration for women of color by launching her successful ventures after the age of 50. Pam’s leadership with NELLA and her ownership of Essentially Good, a skincare line, have empowered countless individuals to embrace their inner strength. We are excited to celebrate her incredible journey of entrepreneurship, self-confidence, and her ability to uplift others through her work.

  • Dr. Vonnya Pettigrew, the first African American woman to purchase a block in Canton, is a trailblazer in media and community impact. Her visionary leadership with Root Branch Media has inspired so many, and we can’t wait to celebrate her achievements and honor her for making history and uplifting others.

  • Toni James is a visionary in the fashion industry and a true style icon. As the owner of Katwalk Boutique, she has been recognized as Baltimore’s Best Boutique for over 10 years, setting the bar for excellence in fashion. Her boutique is known for launching emerging designers who go on to grace the racks of mega-retailers like Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. But Toni’s impact extends beyond fashion—she’s a dedicated mentor and community advocate, providing internships for youth and giving back through her nonprofit work with “Shoes That Fit,” which has provided new shoes and socks to over 5,000 children in need. We are thrilled to celebrate her creativity, influence, and commitment to empowering others.
